Canada : POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN BIOINFORMATICS AND PLANT PHYSIOLOGY

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO, DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY

A postdoctoral position in the field of Bioinformatics and Plant Physiology is available in the Global Change Molecular Plant Physiology group at the Department of Biology, University of Toronto at Mississauga and will be supervised by Prof. Ingo Ensminger. The group is using physiological, molecular and genomic tools to better understand how climate change will affect forest trees.

DUTIES

The successful candidate will work in the project “Screening tools for assessing adaptation of conifers to future climate” and will examine eastern white pine as a model to investigate adaptation and acclimation of conifers to climate change. Candidates are expected to work in an interdisciplinary research project, get involved in ongoing experiments, to assess genetic variation in trees from experiments and associate physiological and genetic data.

PROFILE

Candidates must hold or expect to obtain a PhD in the field of bioinformatics, biology or a related discipline (plant physiology, plant breeding, molecular ecology etc.) and should have strong quantitative and writing skills. Candidates should (1) be proficient with one or more programming languages (Perl, Python or R) and have experience with the bioinformatics analysis of large data sets; previous experience with the analysis of Illumina or 454 sequencing data are a great plus; (2) have an interest in plant physiology, climate change.
