PhD Research: Live Cell Imaging of Intracellular Vesicle Trafficking, Netherlands 2012

The Environmental Science Group at the department of Innovation and Environmental Sciences offers PhD researcher in Grassland biodiversity, Netherlands

Study Subject(s):Live Cell Imaging of Intracellular Vesicle Trafficking
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: Utrecht University, Netherlands
Scholarship can be taken at: Netherlands

Eligibility:
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a strong background in cell biology and interest in biophysics. Experience with different light microscopical techniques is desirable.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: Receptor down regulation is a negative feedback mechanism that is essential for the regulation growth factor signaling. Crucial steps in this process are the internalization of activated receptors and transport to lysosomes. Although many components of the endocytotic machinery are known, the exact mechanism of receptor endocytosis and subsequent trafficking through the cell is still a mistery. The goal of this project is to investigate the initiation of receptor internalization using live cell imaging. For this research you will make use of different fluorescence light microscopes such as TIRF and STED. Fӧrster resonance energy transfer (FRET) will be used to visualize the different molecular interactions that are regulating endocytosis and trafficking. You will perform this work in close collaboration with the department of Molecular Biophysics from Utrecht University.

How to Apply: Online

Scholarship Application Deadline: 01/01/2012
