Eligibility:
Candidates for the position should have a PhD degree in biotechnology (or similar). The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary research group with strong focus on gaining improved understanding of physiology of actinomycetes and in particular links between primary and secondary metabolism. Priority will be given to applicants with documented experience in characterization of physiology of filamentous bacteria, fermentation, and flux analysis.

Scholarship Description: The postdoc position is part of a EU project with the general aim to generate detailed knowledge and efficient tools for the development of an economically viable production process for NAI-107, a promising new injectable antibiotic with the potential to treat life-threatening infections caused by multi- resistant Gram-positive pathogens. NAI-107 is produced by fermentation of a new actinomycete, and the pathway for NAI-107 production needs to be optimized. The development of a robust and economically feasible production process for NAI-107 requires the integration of basic knowledge of the physiology of the strain, which can be best obtained by a combination of classical and post-genomic approaches (proteome/transcriptome) with a detailed knowledge of the production process and its scalability to industrial level. Hence, the project involves flux analyses and 2D-maps for discovering links between primary metabolism and antibiotic biosynthesis.
