Germany : PhD Position in Physical Chemistry
The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e.V. is located in Dortmund and Berlin. Besides scientific activities in the development of new or improved measuring meth-ods and analytical separation techniques as well as spectroscopy and spectrometric equip-ment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the areas of spectroscopic methods and analytical contributions to solve problems in the fields of materials and life sciences.
For our Department of Interface Spectroscopy in Berlin, ISAS invites applications for a posi-tion in a DFG- Project (in cooperation between Clemson University, Clarkson University, Leibniz-Institute for Polymer Research Dresden, University of Göttingen) within the frame of a Materials World Network project: ”Switchable polymer interfaces for bottom-up stimulation of mamalian cells“
Switzerland : Ph.D. position in the field of fate and behavior of nanoparticles in the aquatic environment
Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is a Swiss-based and internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH domain (Swiss Federal Institute of Science and Technology). It is committed to the ecologically, economically and socially responsible management of water resources and aquatic ecosystems.
The Department of Process Engineering has a vacancy for a
Ph.D. position in the field of fate and behavior of nanoparticles in the aquatic environment
The objective of this Ph.D project is to investigate the behavior of silver nanoparticles during wastewater treatment.
South Korea: Two Graduate Research Scholarship Positions at the Mobile Computing Lab, Chosun University

The Mobile Computing Lab is seeking for skillful, hard working and creative candidates with good credentials to join our dynamic international team as Ph.D. or Master Students within the area of wireless networks or related fields (including wireless local area networks, mobile ad hoc networks, wireless sensor networks and cognitive radio networks).
Germany: PhD fellowship at the German Institute for Polymers
Applications are invited from talented candidates to conduct a PhD at the German Institute for Polymers (Deutsches Kunststoff-Institut) in Darmstadt. Aim of the project is to develop advanced analytical techniques for the liquid chromatographic characterization of industrially relevant complex olefin copolymers. The project is funded by a large multinational company and will be conducted in close collaboration with the project partner.
Netherlands: PhD position on Process Mining
The Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) is looking for a PhD working on Process Mining
The AIS group is one of the leading groups in the exciting new field of process mining (www.processmining.org). Process mining techniques focus on process discovery (extracting process models from event logs), conformance checking (comparing normative models with the reality recorded in event logs), and extension(extending models based on event logs). The work resulted in the development of the ProM framework that is widely used in industry and serves as a platform for new process mining techniques used by research groups all over the globe. Moreover, many of the techniques developed in the context of ProM have been embedded in commercial tools. Norway: PhD Research Fellow position in Economics
The PhD fellow will be part of the project “Strengthening the adaptive capacity of institutions in fisheries” funded by The Norwegian Research Council as part of the Programme “Climate Change and its impacts on Norway”(NORKLIMA).
The position is available from August 15th for a period of 3 years.
Project description
The successful candidate will work in a research team that analyzes the feedbacks between climatic, social and ecological forces with the aim to strengthen the adaptive capacity of institutions that govern marine ecosystems, focusing on the Barents Sea ecosystem. Typical issues to be studied are (i) how informal institutions, such as social norms and cultural identity, influence behavior of individual fishermen, (ii) how formal institutions, such as government regulatory agencies, respond to environmental change and its effect on resource users, (iii) how biological complexity, such as the risk of a resource collapse induced by climate change, should be reflected in management plans.
Norway: 1-2 PhD Research Fellowships in Distributed Multimedia
Positions as PhD Research Fellow (Stipendiat SKO 1017) is available at The Department for Informatics.
The fellowship is for a period of up to 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work. Starting date no later than 01.05.2012
Job/ project description:
The Distributed Multimedia Systems (DMMS) Research Group is aiming to improve future networks and middleware for advanced multimedia applications. Multimedia does not only mean audio and video, but also sensor data of any kind. We investigate context-aware and self-adapting solutions for transmission, distribution and management of (multimedia) data. Our current research is centered around the following topics:
